Trade Unions Call 48-Hour Strike "COTONOU, Benin (PANA) - Benin's autonomous workers trade unions in Benins called for a 48-hour strike beginning Tuesday following a breakdown in negotiations with the government Monday over measures to help the population cope with the rise in petroleum products. At the beginning of June, the government decided to rise the pricess of petroleum products by between 35 percent and 70 percent. Benin depends on neighbouring Nigeria for most of its oil supply. Government's decision to hike prices of oil products in that country early this month sparked a nation- wide strike." |
